Dr Swords
Dr Frankie Swords outside the Norfolk and Norwich
University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Endobible's author is Dr Frankie Swords, a consultant endocrinologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Swords is also the trust's clinical lead for the medical division and an honorary senior lecturer in medicine at the University of East Anglia.

She undertook her undergraduate training at Oxford University and her post graduate training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals. In 1999, she entered full time research for which she was awarded a Wellcome Clinical Research Fellowship. During this time, she developed a clinical research interest into the treatment of pituitary disorders, and a scientific research interest and PhD on adrenal disease.

She was awarded the Medical Research Society prize for endocrinology and the William Harvey Research Institute Young Investigator of the year award for this work.

Dr Swords returned to clinical medicine in 2004 and completed her endocrinology training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, in London, before taking up her appointment in Norwich in April 2008.

Dr Swords is passionate about clinical medicine and improving patient care. Endobible grew from work she undertook to standardise the clinical assessment and care of endocrine patients seen in her department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. She has also worked closely with the lead endocrinology specialist nurse at the trust, Sondra Gorick. Together, they have updated the endocrine investigation protocols and accompanying patient information sheets used in the trust clinical investigation unit, which have been adapted for inclusion in Endobible.

Dr Swords is also a committed teacher and wants Endobible to be a valuable learning tool for trainees.

Dr Swords also welcomes feedback on the site, and would particularly like to thank Professor Martin Savage, Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and Dr Helena Gleeson, Consultant Endocrinologist at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Adolescent Health Champion for the Royal College of Physicians, for their advice on the paediatric pages of endobible.

Endobible is a collaboration between Dr Swords and Ruby Media, specialists in digital health publishing. Endobible is owned by Ruby Media, which also publishes Hospital Dr.
