E-news: New guidance on investigating and treating hypogonadism
Wu et al have developed new guidance on the management of late onset hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.
The report defines late-onset hypogonadism by the presence of at least three sexual symptoms associated with a total testosterone level of less than 11 nmol/l and a free testosterone level of less than 220 pmol/l.
These highly practical guidelines should facilitate the identification of patients in whom androgen replacement therapy should be considered and, more importantly, define which patients may not require further investigation or treatment for more subtle biochemical abnormalities and non specific symptoms.
